Just as powerful as the full moon is the new moon. While we are releasing all the energy that no longer serves us in the full moon, with the new moon we are setting our intentions for the upcoming month. As the new moon in Leo is here as of August 18th 2020. Let’s see how we can harness its full potential for our benefit.
The new moon marks the beginning of the moon cycle and occurs when the moon is the darkest in the sky, as the sun and the moon are aligned. The power of intention is very important in this lunar phase and it’s a time to dedicate to creating. New moons tend to be a quiet time for us to reflect. We still have time to gather what we need. I use 3 days before and 3 days after the new moon or a full moon, is the rule I like to follow.
Your new moon rituals or practices should be a reflection of your unique place in life as well as your needs and desires. I encourage you to manifest whatever calls to you. Meditate in a group or alone. Your technique you have used all month will pay off. You do this everyday and also on the new moon. If you are serious and consistent you will see the intentions you set playing out in your life.
Clean Space
Start off your new moon ritual by releasing and clearing. This can open your space and remove any negativity that has accumulated while cleansing the environment and yourself. That being said, take that bath or shower for that extra cleansing. You must clean out all you no longer keep to make room for what will be flowing towards you as you experience the rest of the moon cycle. A simple clearing can be done with the smoke of sage, Palo Santo and Dragons blood even marijuana.
Setting the Tone
Surround yourself with lunar tools to set the right tone for your new moon ritual. I usually create an altar. If you don’t have one no worries. Just bring something that gives you comfort and support. I also use stones as they can also be used to empower you.
Calling in Support
Call upon angels or guides. Shamans tend to call in the spirits of the Four Directions – South, West, North, and East. As well as Mother Earth and Father Sky. Each direction calls upon an archetype that represents the individual directions, with their own energies, spirits, and powers. South is the serpent, West is the jaguar, North is the hummingbird and East is the eagle. Once you are in this sacred space, you are in a safe, healing sphere where the mundane cannot distract you.
Bath Rituals
Have a bath with salts, essential oils, herbs, or flower petals creates a sacred space. Light candles and even play soothing music, whatever permits you to focus. The bath will give you a renewal of energy.
Intentions
Now is the time to begin writing your wishes, dreams, intentions, and desires for the days ahead. Think of it as a manifestation list. Always try to be as specific as you can. It matters how you word what you trying to manifest. Read your list aloud and repeat each day to remind yourself of your goals until the next full moon. I highly recommend to also make a gratitude list while you have a pen handy. I do this every morning, I pick three new things a day.
How to Begin:
1. Set the environment.
Before engaging any ritual, clean and organize your space. I like to burn sage, light a candle, turn on soothing music, and clear energy. And keep a few pieces of paper and a pen on hand for writing. I highly recommend offering a piece offer to mother earth. I would use tobacco, you can use marijuana or alcohol to give to mother earth for all that she does for you. Say a prayer to the for elements, after each element prayer blow a small amount at all four elements. And lastly place some on the earth for a peace offering to protect and remove all negative things and to replace it with the highest power of love and light.
2. Create a connection to the Divine
Call upon a connection to the source energy you feel supports you the most: guides, angels, or any other divine connection. Personally, I like to connect with each of the four elements: air, fire, water, and earth. I correlate each one with a direction on the medicine wheel; East, South, West, and North. Then, I honor the Divine Masculine and Divine Feminine via the Sun and Moon.
3. Sit comfortably and write.
Grab those pieces of paper and write down the things in your life you either wish to call in or are ready to release. This could be certain feelings, fears, or barriers anything you know is not serving you. Consider what you want to call into your life. This could be a job opportunity, a relationship, more financial abundance, an adventure, you name it.
4. Declare.
The next step is to read your desires, the stuff you want to call into your life now out loud. Speaking them aloud plays a crucial role in bringing them to life. You may notice that they ignite even more emotion when spoken, and that feeling is essential to manifestation.
5. Meditate and complete.
Now that you’ve let go and made space for what you truly desire, sit quietly, follow your breath, and visualize your desires coming to fruition. Set the intention to stay open to these elements and experiences entering your life, and any other growth opportunities you may need along the way.
A Full Moon Ritual
When the full moon arrives, it’s time to create space to take stock of what has and hasn’t come to fruition just yet.
A full moon ritual is a time to get quiet, reflect, and celebrate. Unlike the new moon, the full moon represents fruitfulness and completeness and brings with it a lot of energy.
Carving out space during both of these moon phases to go inward and take stock of what’s showing up for you, creates the opportunity to create intentions and find rhythmicity in your own life.
